TL;DR
A tech pack is a specification sheet that tells a manufacturer exactly what to make: material, dimensions, weight, stones, settings, finishes, packaging and tolerances. A clear tech pack means accurate quotes, fewer sampling rounds, and consistent production.
A tech pack is the single document your manufacturer builds from. You do not need a designer to start — even a clear sketch plus the details below gets you a long way, and a good CAD team will formalize the rest.
What to include in a jewelry tech pack
- Material and metal (e.g. 925 sterling silver, 14k/18k gold) and any plating (rhodium, vermeil)
- Dimensions and, where possible, target weight
- Stones — type, size, cut, quantity and setting style (prong, bezel, pavé)
- Finish (high-polish, matte, textured) and any anti-tarnish treatment
- Sizing / length range (ring sizes, chain lengths)
- Packaging and branding (tags, boxes, hallmark)
- Reference images and any tolerances that matter to you
No tech pack yet?
Start with sketches, a reference sample, or even competitor photos. An in-house CAD team can turn any of these into a production-ready 3D model and a formal spec before anything is cast.
Why it matters
The clearer your tech pack, the more accurate your quote and the fewer sampling rounds you pay for. Ambiguity is what causes re-samples, delays and cost creep — a good spec removes it up front.
